It sounds tragic and everything until you realize that children and teenagers do indeed get mental illness as well as adults. Most people in the world are lucky enough not to develop a mental illness when they are younger than 18, but for those of us who do, medications can be a life saver. Does it sound horrible to be on 4 medications? I'm sure it does to some people. How ghastly! But I can assure you that if you are a psychotic suicidal 16 year old it is better to be worried about medications than to be six feet underground. (Not that I really ever obeyed my doctor and took my meds when I was 16, but I probably should have.) :)
