•Veterans' mental health care urged: Joshua Omvig, a 22-year-old veteran with PTSD killed himself in front of his mother four months ago. U.S. Rep. Leonard Boswell, a Vietnam veteran, and Gen. Wesley Clark used Omvig's story to promote a bill called the Comprehensive Assistance for Veterans Exposed to Traumatic Stressors Act, which is in a House subcommittee.
•Paper: Military Ignoring Mental Illness: The Hartford Courant obtained records (using the Freedom of Information Act) that show U.S. troops with "severe psychological problems" have been sent to Iraq or kept in combat even though higher-ups knew they were ill.
•Pentagon Faults Report Questioning Veterans' Mental Health Care: I know you'll find this hard to believe, but the Pentagon is challenging the very-unflattering results of a study done by the Fed's General Accountability Office that say vets who've come home after Afghanistan and Iraq aren't getting the mental healthcare they need.
•U.S. Redeploying Troops With Mental Health Issues: What a lede: "Army Spec. Jeffrey Henthorn, 25, of Choctaw, Okla., was sent back to Iraq for a second tour even though his superiors knew he had twice threatened suicide. He shot himself with his rifle in 2005, an Army report says, fragments of his skull piercing the barracks ceiling." Whew.
•Mental health crisis hits UK troops: Yes, it's happening in England too. The Iraq war is causing record levels of PTSD and depression. Tony Blair is also depressed.
UPDATE:
•Part-time U.K. troops 'suffering more mental illness'
•Extra mental health support for UK reservists returning from Iraq
